san francisco opera, why did you just now send me an email telling me that single tickets for the 2009-2010 season are now on sale? i've already seen that season. all of it.

in other news, today shuffle was madly in love with butch walker. i approve!

oh flist, am i the only person amused by the fact that the world cup final is spain/netherlands? i thought that was settled by the eighty years' war?

apparently the reason i never really got into "emo" the first time it came around is that there's only so long i can listen to some white boy whining about his manpain before i go all HULK SMASH and start looking for some nice screamy lesbians to listen to instead. this realization brought to you by the fact that the shuffle leghump du jour is every dashboard song i've ever downloaded.

today I:

-cleaned for two hours
-vacuumed my bedroom
-moved almost everything from the living room into the bedroom
-(only moved the couch into the kitchen)
-vacuumed the living room
-shampooed the living room
-spent 1.4 seconds contemplating shampooing the bedroom
-emptied the shampoo machine (GROSS OMG)
-waited less than an hour for the living room to dry (occasionally this weather is useful?)
-moved everything back into the living room
-fell over.

at some point i do still need to do something about the sinkful of dishes in the kitchen, and also dinner. sometime later.

the actual plot of die walkure:

act 1: she's totally married to gaston. also, she's your twin sister, dude. don't you think that's a little gross?

act 2: i'm getting tired of putting up with your bastards, dude. also, that one over there is totally boning his twin sister. that's gross. you should kill them.

act 3: valkyries! but brunnhilde acted with agency, so she needs to be punished. also, fire.

of COURSE it took wagner the previously-mentioned FOUR AND THREE QUARTER HOURS to get through all that.

--

then there was construction on 101, which: dear caltrans, please take longer than 500' when merging 4 lanes down to 1 kthx, and dear other drivers: if you are accelerating and braking repeatedly AFTER the last merge point YOU ARE DOIN IT RONG.

--

unsurprisingly, i feel somewhat like hammered sleepdeprived ASS this morning.

--

you could totes still sponsor me for the walk next month, though.

really, wagner? FOUR AND THREE QUARTERS HOURS on ONE OPERA? you didn't think that might be a little excessive?

a half dozen peaches and apricots about to go off, hacked in half and pitted (why is there no such thing as a freestone peach in california, i ask you?), poached until the skins slip off, hacked into chunks and dumped in a saucepan with some vanilla sugar for a while. or so.

edna mae's sour cream pancakes. (a half batch.)

the last of a wee carton of heavy cream poured over.

(i should have put them in a shallow bowl instead of a plate though.)

and i still have some peach-and-apricot stuff for later.

i swear to god, the headlines on developments in containing the gulf oil leak read like something out of a fucking keystone cops manual: "oil containment box arrives in gulf!" "giant funnel poised over leak!"

so i was thinking that this circa 1927 Italianate mansion would be just the thing for the fangirl commune. anyone have a spare 45 million sitting around?

I always forget it's the kimball natural history museum. I wonder if it's a relative.

what on god's green earth could you possibly be cooking that compels you to so frequently leave FIFTY-TWO MINUTES on the timer once you decide it's done? or, perhaps more pointedly, how the fuck do you think microwaves work?

some days i can do amazing things in the kitchen. some days i shouldn't be allowed within 50 feet of it. and some days are both.

so far tonight i have:

-decided to bake a loaf of bread
-measured my ingredients
-dumped most of a pound 1.5-pound bag of sugar on my head
-swept the floor
-swept about half a pound of sugar off the counter
-dumped a couple of tablespoons of sugar out of my bra
-remeasured various newly sugared ingredients
-had at said ingredients with the stand mixer and dough hook
-put the resulting dough at the back of the stove to rise
-swept the floor again
-done all the ingredient-measuring dishes
-put the stand mixer back away
-cleared probably another 1/4 pound or so of sugar off the shelves of my pantry cupboard
-wiped down the stovetop

still to come:

-punching down my dough and shaping it for the loaf pan
-putting the loaf pan at the back of the stove for the second rise
-pulling everything from my pantry shelves, wiping them down, and putting it all back
-wiping down the counters
-including under the microwave
-washing my collection of lunch dishes
-sweeping the floor AGAIN
-putting the loaf in to bake
-doing the last few things needed for lunch tomorrow
-eating some of my goddamn bread already jesus christ
-mopping the floor
-bed
